Poets Against War continues the tradition of socially engaged poetry by creating venues for poetry as a voice against war, tyranny and oppression.

I See a Different World
I see a different world Than the one in the newspapers And on television
I see a world of simplicity Of compassion Where all share their food Their land Their wealth Where knowledge And faith Are valued over might
I see a world Where the only arms we bear Are those we use to embrace each other Where the only shells Are those along the seashore Where peace is real And war is an outdated, discarded concept of an unenlightened past
I see a world Where all are valued All are appreciated All are loved
And I see my hands Your hands Our hands Hands to join with one another Hands to create A world where hearts hope Where minds dream Where eyes see.
Tired of Waiting
"I'm tired of waiting" He says to me "I know," I say "I'm tired of waiting, too"
Tired of trying to do God's work In a world that wants nothing of it Tired of proclaiming the vision To a people that refuse to listen
Tired of waiting for our cohorts To focus on something beyond Their Audis and SUVs Whether they look like Britney Spears Their next microbrew Or their next orgasm
(While the bombs rain on other lands The bullets fly in our own streets And everyday more starve to death And freeze to death)
Tired of waiting For the media to become more than A brainwashing tool of the powers-that-be Deifying the status quo
Tired of my own awareness Of the thought police The increasing danger I pose to them And their dual threats of death and assimilation
Tired of bumper stickers Tying ribbons Holding signs and candles And in return Seeing only rising fear and hatred From maniacal leaders Trickling down to an apathetic, uneducated bourgeoisie
