Poets Against War continues the tradition of socially engaged poetry by creating venues for poetry as a voice against war, tyranny and oppression.

Virginia Adair

90 years old
CA

I was a teacher for years, and have had three books of poetry published. I have been blind for many years. My first book was published when I was in my 80s.

My Radio

I lie on my narrow bed
turning a magic knob.

A stranger's voice at my head
surrounds me with a mob
of the living and the dead;
the wounded scream and sob.

Ten thousand miles away,
How uselessly I pray!
Their midnight is my day,
where other slayers slay.

The words and gunfire blending,
what messages are they sending ?
A thousand lives are ending.

Casualty

Fear arrived at my door
with the evening paper
Headlines of winter and war
It will be a long time to peace
And the green rains
