Like Warm Milk to Media Babies

Everyone says, “We need to…”
stop wars, feed the hungry,
stop youth killing youth,
balance the budget,
overhaul medical care,
create jobs, stimulate
the economy and on and on.
The loudest talkers
have plenty to eat,
plenty of money and medicine,
are heads of military forces,
responsible for millions
of smoking guns.
And when the common folk
say, “Yes we need to, how do we?”
the loudest talkers
bomb Iraq
and momentarily
America
thinks its enemy
is far from home.

Why I'm not Religious and Exasperated with Politics

I’d like to talk about peace
but it’s only accepted
as personal reflection.
“Peace on earth”
is only appropriate
on cards
in December
while using God’s name
to prop up evil
seems to work well
all year long.

What if we could make a bomb...

that would explode far above us
and dispense a substance
that would cause us all
to be filled with loving kindness.

Now that would be a “smart” bomb.
